RightClickEncrypt Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How strong is the encryption in RightClickEncrypt?
VERY!

RightClickEncrypt uses the Rijndael algorithm (and a 256 bit key length) - an industry standard for strong encryption.

No encryption is crack-proof, and anyone saying otherwise isn't being honest. Given enough computing power and time, anything can be cracked. RightClickEncrypt implements open-standard encryption algorithms so rest assured that the encryption used in RightClickEncrypt is the best available.
Q: Can I send encrypted files to people that don't have RightClickEncrypt?
Yes! There are two simple ways to make an encrypted file

1. Create an ordinary RightClickEncrypt (RCE) file. You can always decrypt it on the computer that has RightClickEncrypt installed on it. And you can install the free Reader program on all of your computers (and your friends' computers), so that anybody with the proper password can decrypt your RCE file.

2. Make your RCE file self-extracting. Simply right-click your RCE file, and choose the "Make self-extracting EXE" option. That turns your encrypted file into a file that can be decrypted (with the proper password) by simply double-clicking it.
Q: How long do passwords have to be?
At least 4 characters but beyond that it is up to you.

Remember that the longer and more complex the password, the stronger the encryption. We recommend creating passwords that contain a mix of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and punctuation.
Q: Does RightClickEncrypt change or delete my original files/folders after it encrypts them?
No. RightClickEncrypt makes an encrypted copy of any file or folder, it does not change or delete the original.
Q: Will RightClickEncrypt work on 64-bit Windows?
YES!

The installer contains both the 32-bit and 64-bit version. Hit the download page to get it.
